Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County signed their second official Sister City agreement with County Laois, Ireland on March 7, 2008. The ceremony took place on the campus of O’More College of Design, who was very instrumental in facilitating the relationship, and included many dignitaries from County Laois, Ireland; the City of Franklin; Williamson County and Carleton Place, Canada. Cathaoirleach John Moran from County Laois, Ireland, County Mayor Rogers Anderson from Williamson County and Mayor John Schroer with the City of Franklin signed the official agreement in front of a delighted crowd of over 100.

The story of Laois reveals itself quietly in its landscape. Its wild hills and river valleys bear the scars of a glorious and turbulent past, leaving behind over one thousand heritage sites and a tradition of rich mythology to be explored. Set in the midst of the rural tranquility of the Irish midlands, County Laois offers the visitor a myriad of places to visit and things to do. Laois boasts several gardens of note as well as excellent angling, golf and equestrian facilities.
